Introducing the town of Clare
Clare is a fictional town in New Zealand and the home of the books in my Clare Instalove series. I didn’t create Clare—one of my author friends did. I fell in love with the town and asked if I could borrow it for my setting. The town was perfect for my needs since it was near the sea and had a farming community.
Thankfully, author Shelley Munro agreed, which I appreciate very much.
In case you’re interested, these are Shelley’s two books that mention the town of Clare:
Clare is a close drive to the actual town of Napier, which has a convenient airport. Napier is also handy because it is a larger center and holds a lot of history, which I can use in future books. Color me excited.
Clare is a pretty town with flower baskets lining the main street and many independent-run stores such as a butcher, a greengrocer, a bookstore, and clothing stores. Chain stores haven’t discovered the area yet, which makes me happy. Several artists live in the region and run workshops and courses, so there is an excellent artist supply store that caters to them.
The locals favor the historic movie theater and usually finish their evening with ice cream at the old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Cafés and pubs round out the amenities when it comes to nightlife.
I hope you’ll take a visit to Clare soon.
Next week, I’ll introduce you to the first book in the Clare Instalove series—Badge of Honor.
